Soy candles have become very popular because they burn much cleaner and last longer. The soy pillar candles are especially popular and very easy to make on your own.
The first thing you will want to do get some quality soy wax and then you will need a double broiler. Place the wax inside the broiler and melt it completely over medium-low heat.

You will need some metal pillars that you can use as your molds, most of these will have a wick holder at the bottom so that you can place the wick in place, but make certain it’s firmly in place. Once you have the wick securely in place, you will want to add soy wax chips inside the mold, this helps bind colors better.

Now, you are ready to add any colors and fragrances on top of the wax chips and mix well. Next, pour the melted wax over the chips, you will then need to allow it to cool 24 hours, the wax tends to shrink as it cools, so if this happens, just add more melted wax on top.

Finally, you will pull the mold out of the container and your soy pillar candles are ready to burn.

Get Started With Good Soy Candle Supplies

Soy candles are becoming more popular because they are clean burning and more environmentally friendly when compared to other types of candles. If you want to get started making soy candles then you will need soy candle supplies. The supplies needed are similar to those for any other type of candle, but must be specific to soy candles.

Soy wax is much like paraffin wax, but it is made from soy beans. It has a soft texture and it can be molded, poured or dipped, just like paraffin. When soy wax burns, though, it does not release a dark smoke. It gives off a white soot and that is why it is called a clean burning candle. You will notice when burning a soy candle that you do not end up with the black soot around the top of containers. Soy wax can be found anywhere you buy candles supplies.

Other soy candle supplies that you need include wicks, containers or molds, fragrances and coloring. You will need a heavy sauce pan for melting the wax. Unlike paraffin wax, soy wax can be melted in the microwave, so you may also wish to get containers to use for microwave melting. When you buy fragrances and coloring you need to be sure that it is made specifically for soy candles. this will ensure that you get the scent and color results that you desire.

Soy candle supplies can be high quality or low quality. you need to buy from a reputable retailer to ensure that you will get the best quality supplies. with candles, the better supplies that you have, the better results that you get, so never sacrifice quality for price.

How To Find The Right Gel Candle Supplies

Gel candles are a fairly new type of candle. Gel wax is much different than the typical waxes used to make candles. It is alluring and modern. People really like them and they are becoming quite popular. When you begin to make gel candles you will need to gather gel candle supplies and make sure you have everything you need to make this type of candle.

You should choose your gel candle supplies by ensuring they are made specifically for gel candles. You want to be sure that you buy the right type of wick. Cotton wicks are commonly used in candle making, but they are not good for gel candles. Cotton wicks absorb too much of the gel, so a better option is zinc wicks.

It is also important to choose the right type of gel wax. There are different density choices. You should choose a density that matches the amount of fragrance that you will be using. Higher density gel wax is best for higher fragrance amounts and lower density is best for lower fragrance amounts.

You will also need common things as part of your gel candle supplies. This includes containers, coloring, fragrances and embed, if you are suing them. Again, you need to be sure that the items you use are made specifically for gel candles so that you will get the best results. For example, you want to use a clear container since that will allow the embeds to be seen.

Finding the right supplies for your gel candles should not be difficult. These popular candles are being made by everyone these days, so supplies are easy to come by online or wherever you shop.

A Quick Guide To Making Gel Candles

Gel candles have a unique look that many people love. They are easy to make look amazing because it is simple to embed items in the gel. With a few simple steps you can be on your way to making gel candles that you can give as gifts, keep yourself or even sell for a profit.

To start off making gel candles you will want to choose your container and put in the wick. It is important to choose a container that will be large enough for the amount of gel you will be using. Additionally, you have to allow some extra space at the top of the container for safety. You will also need to be sure that your wick is secure in the container and attached so that it will not move as you pour in the gel.

The next step is to melt the gel. You will likely buy it is a large piece, but you should cut it into smaller pieces to make melting it down easier. You want to use a heavy pot and melt the gel over medium heat. Your goal should be to get the gel to a temperature of 200 degrees Fahrenheit. If it is not hot enough then you won’t get a smooth gel and if it is too hot then you will get a cloudy gel.

Once the gel is melted you will add in color and fragrance. You should place embeds into the container, not the gel. You can dip them in gel so they will stick when you place them. You can then pour the gel into the container to finish off the candle. As you can see making gel candles is pretty simple and it can be a lot of fun to create new candle designs.

Basic Information For Beginners

I know I’ve talked about some great places to get supplies, but for people just starting out knowing what to get and what not to get can be a daunting task, so here’s some of my suggestions to help save you not only money but time!

Candle making is a fun hobby that’s getting a lot more popular.  It’s relatively easy and inexpensive, requires few supplies, and can be combined with some creativity to make fabulous candles as decorations or gifts.  However, for the beginner who’s just getting started, it can seem rather intimidating.  Let’s take a look at some of the most common candle making supplies you’ll need if you’ve  just started to narrow things down.

At minimum, you’re going to need wax, wicking, and something to melt the wax in.  A simple double boiler, a microwave, or a kettle can help you melt the wax effectively.  Just make sure that you never melt wax in any container without a temperature gauge.  Otherwise, there’s a real danger of fire.  Keep a thermometer and a fire extinguisher on hand just in case.

A pour pot to get the wax into your molds will help, too.  A Pyrex measuring cup is a great choice, or even a clean used coffee can.  Just make sure that this pot is something you can handle safely with hot was in it.  Molds can be commercially purchased, or can be something as simple as an old jar.  Get a reliable scale that can handle up to ten pounds accurately to make sure you’re combining the right amounts of wax, scent, and colorant.  Don’t use too much wax in your pot initially – it should never be full, because it can slosh hot wax when you stir.  A hammer to break up wax can also be helpful.

Good wax is important, too.  While practice candles can be made by melting old stubs you have around the house or by using the ends of crayons, they’re not very good for actual use.  Soy waxes, quality candle making paraffins, beeswax, and other options are available.  Look for a wax that will handle well – there are some blends that are specially made for candle making and will be easy for beginners to use.  You can find some at your local craft store, but the selection will be small.  Specialty shops or online stores have more options.

Dye or colorant is important unless you want to make colorless candles.  Choose quality dyes made for candle wax, and remember to cover the surface you’re working on – these dyes can stain.  As far as wicks go, you may wish to start with pretabbed, prewaxed versions.  However, wick in bulk is cheaper.  You just have to do some of the work yourself.  Remember to use the right size wick for the best results.  A quality fragrance oil is important for making scented candles – choose a strong one, since any candle will hold only about an ounce of oil per candle.

There are lots of other candle making supplies out there, too, but these are the basics.  Make sure you choose quality supplies and follow the directions, and you’ll have a great experience making candles!

Personally I love beeswax candles.  They’re all natural made from beeswax and when they burn they have this great natural scent.  There are two ways to make beeswax candles, rolled and what i guess you could say ‘normal’ meaning you melt the wax and normally create tapered candles by dipping but there are some pretty fancy beeswax molded candles out there too.  Rolled candles are fantastic projects to do with kids because you do not need to melt the wax, and that is what we will go over today.  So let’s have some fun making beeswax candles!

Soy candles are fantastic.  They’re natural and cleaner than paraffin wax candles.  Soy candles burn clean – this means that they do not leave that sooty residue all over the place like paraffin candles do.  Soy candles are all natural, made from the oil of soy beans while paraffin candles are petroleum based.  Soy candles also burn at lower temperatures, this lets them burn longer, safer, and to slowly release their scents into the air.  The wax is also easier to clean up, while not as cheap as paraffin they are still low cost, easy to make and will last longer than your paraffin candles.  Today we are going to discuss how to make a soy candle.
